TLDR Forsythiaside-A, a natural substance, can protect against hair loss and is more effective than current treatments, potentially making it a good option for hair loss treatment.
In 2015, a study found that Forsythiaside-A, a natural substance, had protective effects against androgenic alopecia (hair loss) in a mouse model. The substance resulted in a 30% greater inhibition of DHT-induced apoptosis in human hair cells compared to finasteride. In vivo experiments showed a 50% increase in mouse hair density and a 30% increase in thickness with Forsythiaside-A treatment compared to a DHT group. The treated group also showed a 60% increase in the Bcl-2/Bax ratio, a factor related to mitochondrial apoptosis. The study concluded that Forsythiaside-A prevents apoptosis similarly to finasteride but is more effective, suggesting its potential as a treatment for androgenic alopecia.
