TLDR Spanlastics are effective for delivering Meloxicam with improved stability and targeting.
The study investigates the preparation of Meloxicam-loaded spanlastics using the ethanol injection method, focusing on formulation variables such as span®60: edge activator ratio, type of edge activators, amount of Meloxicam, and type of organic phase solvent. These variables were analyzed for their effects on particle size, polydispersity index, and entrapment efficiency. The selected formula demonstrated a sustained release over 6 hours, with an entrapment efficiency of 70.66±1.15%, a zeta potential of -4.51, and particle size of 495±9.9 nm. The results suggest that spanlastics are a promising carrier for drug delivery systems, offering advantages in stability, penetration, and targeting over conventional systems.
