A Double Blind Randomized Placebo Controlled Clinical Trial of Finasteride in the Treatment of Androgenetic Alopecia

    The study evaluated the efficacy and safety of 1 mg/day oral finasteride in treating androgenetic alopecia in 228 Chinese men over 24 weeks. The results showed a significant improvement in hair growth, with a 70.75% efficacy rate in the finasteride group compared to 25.47% in the placebo group, as assessed by an expert panel, patient self-assessment, and investigator observation. The treatment was deemed effective and safe, with minimal adverse effects reported (0.87% in the finasteride group versus 1.77% in the placebo group).
