TLDR Fenugreek extract may help treat benign prostatic hyperplasia.
The study examined the effects of Fenugreek Extract (FCT) on testosterone propionate-induced benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in rats and BPH-1 human prostate epithelial cells. FCT was found to significantly reduce prostate weight, dihydrotestosterone (DHT) levels, and the expression of 5α-reductase 2, a key enzyme in DHT synthesis. It also decreased cell proliferation and modulated apoptosis-related proteins, reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines such as NF-κB, COX-2, TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-8. These results suggest that FCT could be a promising natural treatment for BPH by inhibiting DHT synthesis and reducing inflammation, although further studies are needed to confirm these effects in humans.
