TLDR EX104 effectively promotes hair growth and regenerates follicles in androgenetic alopecia.
The study investigates a novel treatment for androgenetic alopecia (AGA) using a genetically engineered exosome-based delivery platform called EX104. Developed from HEK-293 cells, EX104 expresses therapeutic molecules like WNT10B, VEGFA, and FGF7, which reverse hair follicle miniaturization caused by DHT-induced dermal papilla cells. In a murine model, EX104 significantly promoted hair growth by remodeling the follicular microenvironment and restoring miniaturized follicles. It showed comparable hair growth effects to minoxidil but was superior in stimulating capillary growth and follicular proliferation, making EX104 a promising strategy for AGA management and follicular regeneration.
