TLDR Effective treatments for hirsutism include antiandrogens, finasteride, eflornithine, and various hair removal methods.
The chapter on evidence-based treatment of hirsutism explored various underlying causes such as adrenal, ovarian, central endocrine, or peripheral abnormalities. It reviewed the incidence, prevalence, etiology, prognosis, and diagnostic tests associated with hirsutism. The focus was on treatment effects for women with idiopathic hirsutism, particularly using antiandrogens and finasteride. It also evaluated the effectiveness of topical treatments like eflornithine for facial hirsutism and alternative epilation methods such as electroepilation and photoepilation. Additionally, the chapter assessed treatments for women with hyperinsulinemia using insulin-sensitizing agents.
