TLDR Estrogen therapy can help stabilize the hairline in transfeminine individuals.
The study on 171 transfeminine patients aged 30 or older examined the effects of estrogen hormone therapy on hairline stability, particularly the lateral forehead length, in the context of facial feminization surgery. It found that while age increases lateral forehead length by 0.06 cm per year, each year of feminizing hormone therapy (HRT) reduces it by 0.07 cm, indicating that HRT may counteract age-related hairline recession. This suggests that prolonged estrogen therapy can help stabilize the lateral hairline, which is important for achieving a feminine appearance in facial feminization surgery. Despite some limitations, the findings support the role of HRT in managing androgenic alopecia.
