TLDR Receding hairlines in men are uneven, with the right side larger than the left.
This study aimed to determine the size differences between frontotemporal recessions in men with early androgenetic alopecia (AGA) and to compare these measurements to the Norwood classification system. The study found that frontotemporal recessions are not of the same size, with recessions on the right forehead being significantly larger than those on the left. The Norwood classification system is based on a subjective observation and is limited in precision, which compromises its validity to enable optimal surgery results. The use of a precise quantitative approach for the determination of recession sizes complementary to a classification system should help to determine the status of early AGA more accurately and enhance the outcome of restorative hair transplantation surgery.
