TLDR Antidepressants, 5α-reductase inhibitors, and isotretinoin can cause long-lasting sexual dysfunction.
The study investigated 300 cases of enduring sexual dysfunction from 37 countries following treatment with serotonin reuptake inhibiting antidepressants, 5α-reductase inhibitors, and isotretinoin. Common symptoms included genital anesthesia, pleasureless or weak orgasm, loss of libido, and impotence, with some unique issues like premature ejaculation and persistent genital arousal disorder linked to antidepressants. These conditions often led to relationship breakdowns and impaired quality of life. The findings suggested a legacy syndrome of persistent sexual dysfunction, highlighting the need for improved coding systems and further research to understand these tardive sexual syndromes.
