TLDR Botulinum toxin treatment improves hair follicle width and length in androgenetic alopecia.
This study evaluated the efficacy of type A botulinum toxin for treating androgenetic alopecia (AGA) in 90 patients using ultrasound and trichoscopy. Patients were divided into a botulinum toxin group (72 patients) and a control group (18 patients). Results showed that the botulinum toxin group had significantly wider and longer average follicle width and length at the vertex and left frontal area after 1 and 3 months (p < 0.05), while no significant changes were observed in the control group. Follicle count and hair count did not differ significantly between groups. The study concluded that follicle width and length are effective parameters for evaluating the treatment's efficacy, with ultrasound detecting changes earlier than trichoscopy.
