TLDR Botulinum toxin treatment improves hair follicle width and length in androgenetic alopecia.
The study evaluated the efficacy of type A botulinum toxin treatment for androgenetic alopecia (AGA) using ultrasound and trichoscopy in 90 patients (72 in the botulinum toxin group and 18 in the control group). Results showed significant improvements in follicle width and length in the botulinum toxin group 1 and 3 months post-treatment, although no significant changes in hair count were observed. The findings suggest that botulinum toxin may promote hair follicle growth by relaxing muscles, increasing blood flow, and reducing DHT production. The study underscores the utility of ultrasound and trichoscopy for early assessment and calls for larger, multicenter studies with longer observation periods. No adverse reactions were reported.
