TLDR Topical clobetasol propionate 0.05% ointment is more effective in promoting hair regrowth in patients with alopecia areata than topical tacrolimus 0.1% ointment.
The randomized control trial involved 116 patients with alopecia areata of the scalp, divided into two groups. Group A was treated with topical clobetasol propionate 0.05% ointment, and Group B with topical tacrolimus 0.1% ointment, both applied twice daily for 3 months. The study found that 79.31% of patients in Group A showed effective hair regrowth, compared to 44.82% in Group B, with a significant P-value of 0.00013. Therefore, the study concluded that topical clobetasol propionate 0.05% ointment was more effective in promoting hair regrowth in patients with alopecia areata.
