TLDR Tofacitinib effectively regrows hair in alopecia areata but may need continuous use.
This case report demonstrates the significant efficacy of Chinese Tofacitinib, a JAK inhibitor, in treating a 33-year-old female with Alopecia Areata (AA). The patient experienced substantial hair regrowth over 5 months, with her SALT score improving from 72 to 12, and cytokine levels normalizing. Despite a relapse after stopping the medication, resuming treatment prevented further hair loss. The report suggests that Tofacitinib is a promising treatment for AA with minimal side effects, though continuous use may be necessary to maintain results. However, the study's findings are limited by its focus on a single patient, indicating the need for further research to fully assess the potential of JAK inhibitors in treating AA.
