TLDR Janus kinase inhibitors are effective and generally safe for treating hair loss in adults with alopecia areata.
The study reviewed literature from January 1, 2017, to April 16, 2023, on the efficacy and safety of Janus kinase inhibitors (JAKis) in treating adult patients with alopecia areata (AA). The findings indicate that oral JAKis, including tofacitinib, ruxolitinib, and baricitinib, are effective in reducing hair loss and are generally safe for use, even in severe cases of AA. The authors suggest that further research is needed to optimize dosage and treatment duration.

Key treatments for hair preservation include minoxidil, finasteride/dutasteride, and microneedling, with additional options like specific shampoos, oils, biotin, zinc, tretinoin, clascoterone, and low-level laser therapy. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, reducing stress, and addressing nutrient deficiencies can also support hair health.

User Tricky9555 tried various hair loss treatments for 8 months with no visible results. Others suggested considering a hair transplant, checking thyroid levels, and being patient for up to 24 months for potential results.
