TLDR Hydroxychloroquine can help treat certain types of hair loss.
The study retrospectively analyzed 95 women (35 with frontal fibrosing alopecia (FFA) and 60 with lichen planopilaris (LPP)) to evaluate the efficacy of hydroxychloroquine in treating these conditions. Results showed a statistically significant reduction in disease activity after 6 and 12 months of therapy, with no correlation between age and treatment efficacy but a positive correlation with treatment duration (p < 0.05). Hydroxychloroquine was effective in alleviating symptoms, particularly in long-term therapy, suggesting its potential as a treatment method for FFA and LPP. However, the findings need confirmation through a randomized prospective clinical trial.
