TLDR DNA methylation likely doesn't cause different lambskin patterns in Hu sheep.
The study explored the association between DNA methylation in the core promoter region of the CUX1 gene and lambskin patterns in Hu sheep. Despite identifying core promoter and repressive regions, bisulfite amplicon sequencing showed no significant difference in methylation levels between small wave (SM) and straight wool (ST) patterns, suggesting that differential CUX1 expression is not linked to DNA methylation. However, the research enhances understanding of CUX1's role in hair follicle development, providing valuable insights for the Hu sheep lambskin industry.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.

The conversation discusses why DHT (dihydrotestosterone) negatively affects scalp hair but promotes growth elsewhere on the body. Various opinions include genetic predispositions, differences in hair follicle reactions to DHT, and the potential role of Omega-3 in reducing inflammation and promoting hair health.

A 29-year-old woman is experiencing gradual hair thinning since age 15, suspects Androgenic Alopecia, and has tried 5% minoxidil with little success. She has purchased various hair loss treatments including minoxidil, dutasteride, finasteride, and spironolactone, but is cautious about starting them due to potential interactions with her ADHD medication.
