TLDR Houttuynia cordata extract may help hair growth without harming hair cells.
The study investigated the effects of 70% ethanol extracts from Calendula officinalis, Phellinus linteus, and Houttuynia cordata on various cell types related to hair growth. It was found that while most extracts were cytotoxic to CCD-986 cells, they were not harmful to hair follicle dermal papilla cells (HFDPC). Notably, the H. cordata extract promoted hair growth by enhancing adipogenesis in 3T3-L1 cells, which is linked to hair regeneration. These findings suggested that these plant extracts could be beneficial in developing hair care products.
