Hair Growth Effects of a Herbal Complex Extract Containing Houttuynia Cordata Thunb on C57BL/6 Mice

The study investigated the effects of a herbal complex extract containing Houttuynia cordata Thunb on hair growth in C57BL/6 mice. Twenty mice were divided into four groups: control, 50% extract (S-1), 100% extract (S-2), and 5% minoxidil. The treatments were applied daily for 3 weeks. Results showed that S-2 and minoxidil significantly stimulated hair growth, increasing hair density by 2.5 and 3.1 times, and hair weight by 8.3 and 10 times, respectively, compared to the control. Additionally, the expression of IGF-1 and VEGF genes was significantly up-regulated in the S-2 and minoxidil groups. The study concluded that the S-2 extract has strong potential as a hair growth stimulant.
