TLDR Houttuynia cordata and Calendula officinalis extracts may promote hair growth without harming cells.
The study investigated the effects of ethanol extracts from Houttuynia cordata and Calendula officinalis on hair growth-related cells. The extracts were tested at concentrations of 50%, 100%, and 500 μg, showing no cytotoxicity to fibroblasts and dermal papilla cells, with cell viability increasing up to 128.2%. The 70% ethanol extracts promoted hair growth activity by stimulating lipid precursor cells and enhancing lipolysis. These findings suggested that the extracts had potential for developing hair-related products without being toxic to the cells involved in hair growth.
