TLDR Houttuynia cordata compounds may help with anti-aging and hair loss.
The study investigated the active compounds in Houttuynia cordata, a herbal medicine known for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antitumor properties, and evaluated their acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitory and antioxidant activities. Using HPCL, the researchers identified several compounds, including cryptochlorogenic acid, apigenin, afzelin, quercitrin, and hyperoside. Quercitrin was the most abundant at 1.326 mg/g. All compounds except apigenin showed significant antioxidant activity. In terms of AChE inhibition, apigenin had the highest activity at 98.49%, followed by afzelin, cryptochlorogenic acid, quercitrin, and hyperoside. These findings suggest potential for developing functional tea products for anti-aging and hair loss prevention.
