TLDR Men with androgenic alopecia have different hair copper levels than those without.
The study aimed to determine the levels of copper in hair and blood among men with androgenic alopecia compared to a control group. Conducted at Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital and the Center for Health Laboratory in Makassar, the study included 21 men with androgenic alopecia and 11 controls. Results showed a significant difference in hair copper levels between the alopecia group and the control group (p < 0.05), but no significant difference in blood copper levels. There was no correlation between hair and blood copper levels, nor between copper levels and the degree of alopecia (Hamilton grade). Age was significantly correlated with the incidence of alopecia, but not with copper levels.
