TLDR Men with male pattern baldness don't necessarily have high levels of Dehydroepyandrosterone-sulfate, and there's no link between its levels and the severity of hair loss.
The study from 11 years ago, "SERUM-CONCENTRATIONS OF Dehydroepyandrosterone-sulfate IN MEN WITH ANDROGENETIC ALOPECIA", aimed to determine the serum-levels of Dehydroepyandrosterone-sulfate (DHEA-S) in men with Androgenetic Alopecia (AA) and any possible correlation between the clinical stage of AA and DHEA-S levels. The study involved 44 men, 37 with male pattern baldness and 7 healthy controls, aged 19 to 55. The results showed that only nine of the men with AA had high levels of DHEA-S, and no correlation was found between the clinical stage of AA and DHEA-S levels. There was only a relationship between the increase of age and decrease of DHEA-S levels. Contrary to previous studies, no elevation of DHEA-S in men with AA was found, indirectly supporting the importance of some follicular enzymes that could increase the amount of alternative DHT-sources in AA.
