TLDR Melatonin helps hair growth in women with hair loss.
A pilot study was conducted to investigate the effect of topically applied melatonin on hair growth in women with androgenetic or diffuse hair loss. The study involved 40 women who were randomly assigned to receive either a melatonin supplement or a placebo for 6 months. The results showed that the melatonin group had a significant increase in the anagen hair rate compared to the placebo group. No adverse effects were reported. These findings suggest that melatonin may be a potential treatment option for hair loss in women with androgenetic alopecia or diffuse alopecia.
