TLDR Using both minoxidil and flutamide together is more effective for treating hair loss than using minoxidil alone.
The study "Comparison between “5% minoxidil plus 2% flutamide” solution vs. “5% minoxidil” solution in the treatment of androgenetic alopecia" was a randomized, double-blinded clinical trial involving 40 patients with androgenetic alopecia. The patients were treated with either topical minoxidil or a combination of topical flutamide and minoxidil for 6 months. The results showed that the combination of flutamide and minoxidil was significantly more effective than minoxidil alone in terms of hair density, hair thickness, and patient satisfaction (p < 0.05). The study concluded that a topical hydroalcoholic solution of flutamide plus minoxidil may be a promising treatment for androgenetic alopecia, but recommended more prolonged studies with a higher number of patients for better evaluation.

The conversation discusses the effectiveness of anti-androgens for hair loss, with a preference for topical treatments like RU58841 over oral options due to better scalp concentration and fewer side effects. Topical finasteride at 0.1% may provide some results, especially when combined with a topical androgen receptor antagonist like RU58841.

CosmeRNA, a new hair loss treatment, is expected to release soon and may become part of the "big three" treatments alongside finasteride and minoxidil. It works differently from finasteride by targeting androgen receptors in hair follicles, potentially offering fewer side effects.

Some users of RU-58841 report cardiovascular symptoms like heart palpitations and chest tightness, which may be linked to its metabolites causing lung disease. The safety of RU-58841 is uncertain due to lack of long-term data and concerns about product purity, especially from gray market sources.
