TLDR Androgens, like testosterone, are crucial for early testicular descent in rats.
The study investigated the effects of flutamide and finasteride on rat testicular descent. The results showed that androgens, primarily testosterone, are required during the early phases of gubernacular outgrowth for subsequent successful completion of testicular descent. The study also demonstrated the androgen dependency of the earliest phases of testicular descent, which coincides with the outgrowth of the gubernaculum. The study suggests a pivotal role for androgens in early testicular descent.
