Several Variants on Chromosome 10 Are Associated with Coarse Hair Diameter in Dazu Black Goats (Capra Hircus)

This study investigated the genetic basis of coarse hair diameter in Dazu black goats using a genome-wide association study (GWAS). Researchers collected coarse hair and blood samples from 263 adult female goats and identified 11,322,006 SNPs and 863,734 indels. They found eight significant SNPs and three significant indels associated with coarse hair diameter. Notably, seven significant SNPs and one significant indel were located in a specific region on chromosome 10, highlighting its importance in influencing hair diameter. These findings provide insights into the genetic mechanisms affecting fiber diameter in goats.
