TLDR Chemical and physical treatments like bleaching, dyeing, and UV radiation damage both Caucasian and Afro-ethnic hair.
The study evaluated the effects of various chemical and physical treatments on different types of hair, including Caucasian and Afro-ethnic hair. It found that bleaching/dyeing and UVA/Vis radiation significantly damaged Afro-ethnic hair by increasing combing work and causing cuticle wear, protein loss, and reduced tryptophan content. Straightening with ammonium thioglycolate led to notable color fading in brown/black hair, while UVA/Vis radiation primarily affected blond hair due to its low eumelanin content. The research highlighted the importance of understanding hair shape-related damage to develop safer cosmetic products for maintaining the beauty of curly hair.
