TLDR Rosemary extract helps skin heal faster by activating a specific receptor.
The study explores the impact of carnosic acid in topical rosemary extract on skin repair, highlighting its role in activating the TRPA1 channel. Using various mouse models, including those lacking TRPA1 in specific neuronal cells, the research shows that rosemary extract enhances wound healing and promotes new hair follicle formation. Over 4 weeks, creams containing rosemary extract or carnosic acid were applied daily to wounded areas, demonstrating significant improvements in skin repair. These findings suggest that carnosic acid in rosemary extract could be a therapeutic option for enhancing wound healing, though further research is needed to investigate any sex-specific effects.
