TLDR CB-03-01 is a promising skin cream for treating hormone-related skin problems without causing harmful body-wide effects.
The study investigated the antiandrogenic activity of cortexolone 17a-propionate (CB-03-01), a compound with potential for treating androgen-dependent skin disorders. CB-03-01 demonstrated strong local antiandrogenic effects in hamster skin without systemic side effects, such as affecting gonadotropin levels or causing skin irritation. It was found to be more potent than progesterone, flutamide, and finasteride, and as effective as cyproterone acetate when applied topically. However, it did not exhibit antiandrogenic or antianabolic effects when injected subcutaneously in rats, nor did it interfere with hormone secretion in parabiotic rats, except for weak glucocorticoid activity at high doses. The study concludes that CB-03-01 is a promising topical antiandrogen for skin disorders, with a need for further research to confirm its safety and effectiveness in humans. The number of animals used in the study was not specified.
