TLDR Several treatments are effective for pigmentary disorders like vitiligo and melasma.
The document reviews treatments for pigmentary disorders, highlighting several studies. A phase 2b trial with 364 patients found oral ritlecitinib effective for nonsegmental vitiligo over 48 weeks. A study with 19 participants showed micro-needling with 5-FU was more effective than tacrolimus for vitiligo. Preliminary research suggested a role of varicella-zoster virus in segmental vitiligo. A trial with 40 melasma patients found 30% metformin cream as effective as triple combination cream. Another study with 20 vitiligo patients indicated that fractional CO2 laser, PRP, and NB-UVB significantly reduced vitiligo patch size. Further research is recommended to confirm these findings.
