The study investigated the anti-allergic effects of fermented red ginseng marc (fRGM) on a 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene-induced atopic dermatitis-like mice model. Over six weeks, mice were treated with distilled water (control), dexamethasone, or fRGM. The fRGM treatment alleviated skin lesions, reduced serum IgE levels, and decreased skin lipid peroxidation and superoxide anion levels while increasing glutathione content. It also down-regulated inflammatory mediator gene expressions and suppressed epidermal thickening, collagen deposition, and inflammatory cell infiltration. Additionally, fRGM reduced hypertrophic changes and inflammatory responses in the spleen and lymph node. While both dexamethasone and fRGM showed beneficial effects, antioxidant effects were unique to fRGM, suggesting its potential as a therapeutic source for atopic dermatitis.
