TLDR Korean Red Ginseng may improve skin condition and reduce allergy markers in atopic dermatitis patients.
In a study involving 30 atopic dermatitis (AD) patients, Korean red ginseng (KRG) was administered for 16 weeks, resulting in significant improvements in skin hydration, transepidermal water loss, and a decrease in the SCORAD index and serum IgE levels. These findings suggest that KRG may serve as a beneficial functional food for AD patients. The study, supported by the Korean Society of Ginseng and Korea Ginseng Corporation, indicates that while KRG appears to improve skin barrier function and reduce IgE levels, further research is necessary to elucidate the mechanisms behind its effects on AD. No adverse effects were reported from KRG treatment in the study.
