TLDR Social media doesn't significantly influence treatment choices for hair loss, but better education on options is needed.
The study on androgenetic alopecia (AGA) involved 390 patients, including 78 females and 312 males, to assess demographic characteristics, psychosocial impacts, and social media's influence on treatment choices. The average onset age was 23.9 years for men and 29.46 years for women, with severe AGA affecting 38.5% of men and 41% of women. Social media is widely used for information, with 93.6% of women and 89.4% of men engaging, but it does not significantly influence treatment decisions. Women are more inclined towards noninvasive treatments like minoxidil, while men prefer hair transplants. The study highlights the need for better education on treatment options, as many patients use nonmedical treatments without proper guidance, risking adverse effects. Despite the widespread use of social media, it does not significantly impact treatment satisfaction or psychological outcomes.
