TLDR Androgen receptor expression is similar in affected and unaffected scalp areas in androgenetic alopecia.
The study aimed to compare androgen receptor expression in lesional and non-lesional scalp areas of androgenetic alopecia patients using immunohistochemical staining. Biopsy specimens from 3 patients with androgenetic alopecia and 4 normal controls were analyzed. Results showed that androgen receptors were strongly expressed in eccrine and sebaceous glands, and weakly in epidermal cells, hair infundibulum, hair bulb epithelium, and dermal hair papilla. The study concluded that there was no significant difference in androgen receptor expression between lesional and non-lesional scalp areas in patients with androgenetic alopecia.
