Reviewing Research on Laser Output Used for Treatment of Hair Loss

TLDR Low-level laser therapy is effective and safe for treating hair loss.
The review from 2014 examined various studies and patents on laser treatments for hair loss, finding that low-level laser therapy (LLLT) was effective and safe for treating different types of alopecia with minimal side effects, while high-level lasers were more suited for surgical applications and hair transplantation. The studies, some involving up to 491 participants, supported the reliability of these findings. However, the review noted the need for further research with larger, randomized, double-blind studies to optimize protocols and confirm long-term efficacy. Integrating laser therapy with traditional Korean medicine was suggested to potentially enhance treatment outcomes.

The review discusses traditional hair loss treatments like minoxidil and finasteride, and newer options like Low-Level Laser Therapy, microneedling, and platelet-rich plasma for androgenetic alopecia. It highlights the need for more high-quality trials to assess these treatments' effectiveness and standardized protocols for emerging therapies.
