TLDR A peptide from hair follicle stem cells can boost hair growth.
This study found that a peptide fragment derived from AIMP1, secreted by hair follicle stem cells (HFSCs), promotes hair growth by activating dermal papilla cells (DPCs). The research showed that AIMP1 levels decrease with hair loss, and mice treated with AIMP1 experienced faster hair regrowth. The active region of AIMP1, identified as 41 amino acids (TN41), was shown to activate key signaling pathways (Akt and ERK), increase β-catenin, and enhance DPC activation. TN41 also promoted hair shaft elongation in cultured human hair follicles and improved the hair-inducing activity of cultured DPC spheroids, suggesting its potential in stimulating active hair regrowth.
