specialized cells involved in sexual reproduction, like sperm and eggs

Germ cells, also known as reproductive cells or gametes, are specialized cells that are involved in sexual reproduction. In humans, these include sperm cells in males and egg cells (ova) in females. They carry half the genetic information (haploid) of an individual, which combines during fertilization to form a complete set of chromosomes (diploid) in the offspring.
