    GlossaryNeutrophil Extracellular Traps

web-like structures released by white blood cells to trap pathogens

Neutrophil Extracellular Traps (NETs) are web-like structures composed of DNA, histones, and antimicrobial proteins that are released by neutrophils, a type of white blood cell, to trap and kill pathogens. This process, known as NETosis, helps the immune system control infections but can also contribute to inflammation and tissue damage if not regulated properly.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.
