research Antibacterial and Cytotoxicity Effects of Aloe Vera Leaves Extract Gel and Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles on Bacterial Skin Infections
The study investigated the antibacterial and cytotoxic effects of green synthesized zinc oxide nanoparticles (GS-ZnONPs) using Aloe vera leaves extract on bacterial skin infections, specifically targeting Staphylococcus spp. isolated from alopecia patients. The GS-ZnONPs demonstrated effective antibacterial activity with minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) ranging from 0.400 to 0.650 mg/mL against the bacterial isolates. However, at a concentration of 400 mg/mL, the GS-ZnONPs also exhibited cytotoxic effects on normal human dermal fibroblast cells, reducing cell viability significantly compared to the control group. The findings suggest that while GS-ZnONPs have potential as antibacterial agents, their cytotoxicity at higher concentrations needs careful consideration.
