TLDR Stingless bee propolis at a 6.25% concentration effectively stops dandruff-causing bacteria growth, performing better than ketoconazole.
The study aimed to identify the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of stingless bee propolis (Trigona sp.) for the treatment of dandruff by inhibiting the growth of dandruff-causing bacteria. Dandruff is a condition that can lead to hair loss and is often exacerbated by the presence of microorganisms. Propolis, a natural substance, was tested for its effectiveness compared to common anti-dandruff compounds like ketocanozole. The study found that a 6.25% concentration of propolis extract was the MIC required to inhibit the growth of dandruff-causing microbes. The propolis extract showed an effectiveness value of 223.52% when compared to ketoconazole, indicating that propolis could be a highly effective alternative treatment for dandruff.
