GlossarySkin Fibrosis (Fibrosis of the Skin)

excessive fibrous tissue buildup in skin causing thickening

Skin fibrosis, also known as dermal fibrosis, is a condition characterized by the excessive accumulation of fibrous connective tissue in the skin. This can result from chronic inflammation, injury, or diseases such as scleroderma. The overproduction of collagen leads to thickening, hardening, and scarring of the skin, which can impair its normal function and elasticity.

community microneedle, any long term users damage?

in Microneedling  35 upvotes 1 year ago
Microneedling is effective for hair growth, especially when combined with finasteride and minoxidil, but concerns exist about potential long-term skin damage. Users report increased collagen and elastin deposition, but the long-term effects on the scalp remain uncertain.

Scalp tension from the occipitalis muscle is theorized to contribute to hair loss, but most believe DHT and genetics are the main causes. Treatments like finasteride and minoxidil are considered more effective than addressing scalp tension.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.
