November 2023 in “Journal of Innovations in Applied Pharmaceutical Science (JIAPS)” This study developed and characterized a topical emulgel containing neem oil for its anti-dandruff properties. Five formulations were prepared using carbopol-934, with formulation F5 showing the highest efficacy. The emulgel demonstrated a 65.27% release of neem oil after 8 hours and exhibited non-fickian diffusion. In vitro antifungal studies using Candida albicans revealed that formulation F5 had the highest zone of inhibition at 12mm. The emulgel offers advantages such as controlled dual release, optimal spreadability, stability, aesthetic appearance, adherence to the scalp, and a pH similar to that of the scalp.
