TLDR Vegetable oils rich in antioxidants may help prevent skin aging caused by free radicals.
Three years ago, a study by Suellen Christtine da Costa Sanches, José Otávio Carréra Silva-Júnior, and Roseane Maria Ribeiro-Costa from the Federal University of Pará reviewed the use of vegetable oils in preventing skin aging. They found that these oils, rich in antioxidants, can combat free radicals, a primary cause of skin aging. Skin aging is marked by changes in the epidermis and dermis due to a decrease in collagen, elastic, and glycosaminoglycan fibers. While intrinsic aging can't be prevented or reversed, extrinsic aging caused by free radicals can be naturally prevented with oil-based cosmeceuticals. The study concluded that Brazil, with its wealth of natural resources, provides plant ingredients composed of bioactive compounds that fight damage caused by free radicals.
