TLDR Genetic variation in the KRTAP15-1 gene affects wool yield in sheep.
The study investigated the genetic variation in the ovine keratin-associated protein 15-1 gene (KRTAP15-1) and its effect on wool traits in 396 Merino × Southdown-cross sheep. Four variants (A to D) were identified, with three being non-synonymous. Variant B was associated with decreased wool yield, while variant C was linked to increased wool yield and decreased fibre diameter standard deviation. Sheep with genotype AC had a higher wool yield compared to those with genotypes AA or AB.
