TLDR Telocytes in the scalp may help with skin regeneration and maintenance.
This study characterized telocytes (TCs) in human scalp tissue, focusing on their location, morphology, and ultrastructure. Using immunohistochemical staining for CD34 and CD117/c-KIT, TCs were found in the connective tissue, particularly around hair follicles, blood vessels, sweat glands, sebaceous glands, and adipose lobules. Transmission electron microscopy confirmed their spindle shape, small cell bodies, and long thin processes. The strategic positioning of TCs around stem cell clusters in the bulge region of hair follicles suggested their potential role in local regeneration, remodeling, and homeostasis of the skin.
