The KIT Proto-Oncogene Receptor Tyrosine Kinase, often referred to as c-kit or CD117, is a protein that plays a crucial role in cell signaling. It is involved in the regulation of cell growth, survival, and differentiation, particularly in stem cells. Mutations in the KIT gene can lead to uncontrolled cell proliferation and are associated with various cancers, including gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs).
