TLDR Special particles from umbilical cord stem cells help heal skin wounds in diabetic mice by preventing certain immune cell death.
The study demonstrates that umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cell-derived apoptotic extracellular vesicles (UCMSC-derived ApoEVs) significantly improve cutaneous wound healing in type 2 diabetic mice by inhibiting macrophage pyroptosis. This improvement is achieved through the reduction of oxidative stress and the downregulation of key pyroptosis-related proteins such as NLRP3, caspase-1, and gasdermin D. The findings suggest that UCMSC-derived ApoEVs could be a promising therapeutic approach for enhancing wound healing in diabetic patients by modulating inflammatory responses and oxidative stress.
