TLDR Blocking TRPV3 may help treat itch in dry skin conditions.
The study investigated the role of TRPV3 in itch using ICRTRPV3-/- mice and found that TRPV3 deletion significantly reduced spontaneous scratching behavior and nerve fiber density in the skin, despite no difference in dry skin development between TRPV3 knockout and wild-type mice. These findings suggested that TRPV3 played a crucial role in itch development and nerve sprouting in dry skin, indicating that TRPV3 antagonists could be a potential therapeutic option for managing pruritus in conditions like atopic dermatitis.
