TLDR Laser treatment and deroofing are effective options for hidradenitis suppurativa.
The THESEUS prospective cohort study evaluated current management pathways for hidradenitis suppurativa in the UK, involving 151 participants across 10 hospitals. The study found that laser treatment had the highest proportion of participants willing to receive it (69%), followed by deroofing (58%) and conventional surgery (54%). Participant willingness was strongly influenced by clinicians. Fidelity to oral doxycycline was low (52% after 3 months) due to lack of effectiveness and adverse effects. The study established deroofing and laser treatment as viable options in the UK and prioritized these interventions for future randomized controlled trials.
