TLDR Better understanding and new treatments for hidradenitis suppurativa are emerging, but more research is needed.
Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) was a chronic and debilitating skin disease affecting the hair follicle unit, with a significant impact on patients' quality of life. Despite advances in research over the past decade, the multifactorial pathogenesis of HS was not fully understood, complicating treatment development. A multidisciplinary approach was necessary to address the disease's various aspects, considering differences in clinical characteristics across genders and ethnic groups. New targeted therapies were being developed as understanding improved, but more randomized controlled trials were needed to explore dietary factors in HS pathogenesis. Additionally, standardized outcome measures and diverse representation in clinical trials were required to enhance the understanding and management of HS.
