TLDR Finasteride affects frog testes by increasing testosterone, decreasing 5α-DHT, and impacting genes related to reproduction and other functions.
This study investigated the effects of finasteride on Silurana tropicalis testes. The researchers found that finasteride exposure increased the production of testosterone and decreased the production of 5α-DHT in both liver and testis tissues. The study also identified a number of gene ontology terms that were significantly enriched after finasteride exposure, including those involved in reproduction, apoptosis, metabolism, biosynthesis, immune response, cell communication, cell growth and differentiation, and epigenetics. The study suggests that finasteride can have adverse effects on the reproductive system at the molecular, cellular, and physiological levels. Further experiments should be undertaken to investigate these findings in detail.
